Takeaway:
Despite laws meant to keep religion and politics separate (e.g., separation of church and state), I discovered that religion continues to be a significant part of the presidential elections, in both conservative and liberal media outlets. I finally understand that religion is pertinent to political campaigns, and is consistently used to appeal to certain groups of voters. It is also used as a mechanism to talk about important social issues, like gay rights, abortion and even national security.
